3D to 2D Frogzilla Returns!

For my 3D to 2D project I wanted to make something comedic so I used photoshop to incorporate my soap sculpture into a corny horror film poster called "Frogzilla Returns!".

Switcheroo Response

Identity is what defines us, it is what we are recognized by it is what you are, who you are, what we work so hard on and think about constantly, Who am i? Do I like this? Is this my style? Or when someone says, This is so you! Or that person or picture looks like you! Identity defines us, identity theft is one of the biggest fears of a person. Sherman dis-configures this idea of identity, takes away recognition to the point where when someone claimed to be Cindy Sherman no one actually knew if it was truly her, she changed her identity in her photos so much no one could or recognize if it was her. It is amusing this idea that you can change your image so much that people can't recognize your face or connect it with a specific identity. It also can be dangerous, such as with identity theft or posing as person that can trick people either as a joke or to cheat people in some way. Not being identifiable is a scary thought to most but can also be intriguing. In most situations I would prefer to be easily identifiable, but in some it might be nice to be able to just disappear into a guise and have no one know who I am, become a sort of invisible to the public. Identity can be ambiguous.

Masked Identity

Masked Identity
For my masked identity I chose to base my project off of nature. Even at a young age I loved nature and was enthralled by its natural beauty. I hope to emulate natural forms from nature in my project and through photos imitate and blend with the beauty of nature. Much of our forests and wildlife are being destroyed and replaced by housing, factories, cities, etc. Through this project I wish to integrate myself with the nature I wish to preserve.

"Speaking of Touch"

"Hands are messengers of emotion." (Ackerman P.118) Touch is perhaps the most important of the five senses. Touch gives us the ability to interact with the world and others. Touch comforts, hurts, surprises, tickles, and so many other things. Whereas the other senses all deal with one specific organ, touch is everywhere, you can touch with your entire body. Touch, it is essential to our lives, whereas hearing or seeing are not. Touching things gives us knowledge about them, smooth, rough, hard, soft, hairy, bumpy, etc. Without touch we would be lost, we wouldn't be able to interact with our surroundings, we wouldn't exist as we do. Touch is very important is artwork, without touch, art would be essentially impossible. Touch is our connection to the world and each other.

Invented Form; Inspiration Sources

Watching Waves

Oceans whisper their whimsical waterfalls
windblown, meandering the shorelines periphery
washing gently on shimmering sea...
oceans whisper their whimsical waterfalls
wrapping, enfolding hues of blue
crashing their whiteness, wrapping sand softly...
oceans whisper their whimsical waterfalls
undulating, weightless when serene
turbulent, riotous restless oft’ daunting...
oceans whisper their whimsical waterfalls
scenic seashells ingrained in sand
tossed, transferred by gentle tides
oceans whisper their whimsical waterfalls...

Paper Stacking Project; Fruit & Invented Sculpture

The Apple
I used a green apple as my model for the first paper stacking project, I found it difficult to get the shape and size right, it was cutting all the circles out the right size. I ended up having lips and edges that I had to sand down with the sander.

Apple finished and sanded

 Invented form
for my invented form I used the ocean and waves as my primary model and inspiration, to see all the inspirations go to the "Invented Form; Inspiration Sources" post.

Invented form: Waves finished
I used blue and green pastel to create the natural colors of the ocean and white to represent the sea-foam. The overlapping and rolled form represent the movement and rhythm of the waves as they naturally overlap each other and roll in on themselves towards shore. I also used the gloss gel to give the sculpture the sleek shimmering look of water.
